HISTORY
BEHIND THE DESIGNS OF OUR ID TAG JEWELRY
JOLLY
ROGER PIRATE FLAGS BONES OR BLADES...
Our Jolly Roger Skull Tag is modeled after the Pirate Richard Worley - A pirate for only 6 weeks,
Richard Worley, did more piratical work in less time than any sea-robber on record.
Jolly Roger Bones Jewelry is modeled after the
Pirate Edward England's Jolly Roger Flag.
Jolly Roger Blades Jewelry is modeled after the Pirate Jack Rackam's
Jolly Roger Flag. The origins of the name "Jolly Roger"
for the pirate flag is a bit unclear. It most likely originated
from "joli rouge" meaning "pretty red", a
French discription of the bloody banners that were flown by early
privateers.
MALTESE
OR CRUSADERS CROSS
*MALTESE
CROSS-A Brief History: The Knights of St. John, The Baptist, of
Jerusalem, now known as the Knights of Malta, originated as a
group of monks attached to a hospice in Jerusalem. Their mission
was to aid travelers visiting the Holy Land. The eight points
of the cross stand for the merits that the Members of "The
Order" were required to abide by, eight Obligations or Aspirations:
To live in truth, have faith, repent of sins, give proof of humility, love justice, be merciful, be sincere and whole-hearted and
endure persecution. The four arms of the cross represent Faith,
Justice, Temperance and Fortitude.
Born out of the chaos of the early middle ages, these armored
and mounted warriors revolutionized warfare. They became the corner stone of the new political feudalism. For over six centuries
the medieval knights dominated the battlefields. At first, the
church attempted to tame them. That having failed, the church then
enlisted them to help with the first crusade of 1095. These knights
received a status that was the the envy of kings and queens. They
were master mariners, builders, and navigators. They were known
to have acquired vast wealth through their exploits for their
order. They were also the first organized group of firefighters
and paramedics.
THE FLEUR-DE-LIS - fleur de lis
In English, "fleur-de-lis" (also spelled "fleur-de-lys") means "flower of the lily" and does in fact depict a lily or lotus blossom. It represents French Royalty, signifying perfection, light, and life. In legend,an angel presented Clovis, the Merovingian King of the Franks with a golden lily as a symbol of his purification upon his conversion to Christianity. Another legend has Clovis adopting the Fleur-de-lis as the French Royal Symbol when waterlilies showed him the path to a safe river crossing, thereby allowing for his success in a battle.
In the twelfth century, either King Louis VI or King Louis VII became the first French ruler to use the fleur-de-lis symbol on his shield. Some time later, English kings used the symbol on their coats of arms to amplify their claims to the throne of France.
During the 14th century, the fleur-de-lis was often incorporated into the family crests sewn onto the knight's surcoat. The surcoat was worn over their coat of mail thereby creating the term "Coat of Arms." At first the Coat of Arms was used to identify individuals in battle. Later, it became a symbol of social status.
Joan of Arc carried a white banner that depicted God blessing the French royal emblem - the fleur-de-lis, when she led French troops to victory against the English under Dauphin, Charles VII, in his quest to take over the French throne.
The Roman Catholic Church made the lily the emblem of the Virgin Mary and because of it's three petal design, the fleur-de-lis has also been used to represent the Holy Trinity.
Military units, including divisions of the United States Army, have also used versions of the fleur-de-lis as a symbol of their martial power and strength.
